Pedicels : stalk of one flower. Pedicellate : having a stalk. Peduncule : stalk of an inflorescence. Perennating : surviving winter after flowering. Peltate : of a flat organ, with stalk inserted under surface, not at edge. See. Fig. P14. Petiole : stalk of leaf. Perfoliate : of a leaf, the base of which surrounds the stem. Pericarp : fruit: wall surrounding seeds. Pinnate : 3 or > leaflets arranged in two rows along stalk. See Fig.011. Pinnatifid : pinnately cut, not separate portions lobes connected by leaf blade. See Fig. P15 Pinnatisect : pinnatifid like, but with some lower divisions reaching the midrib. Procumbent : lying loosely along surface of ground. Protandrous : stamens mature before ovary. Pruinose : having whitish bloom, as if covered in frost. Puberulent : slightly hairy Pubescent : short, stiff hairs. Pungent : sharply + stiffly pointed, prickly. |
