Physical Description

Mycelieum lives in soil and enters tree through roots. Epedemic in England.

Life Cycle

Infection by swimming spores germinating from resistant spores resting in soil. These penetreate root tissues. Mycelium forms in roots.

Damage Caused

Death of trees and shrubs, by killing roots. Yellow sparse foliage, dieback, total death in winter. Roots thick, and appear dead. Dead strips extend up bark, if reaches a brach, this will die.

Control Method

Do not plant in waterlogged soils provide drainage. Do not use excessive mulches, manure. Use tolerant Leyland Cypress bark or tree.

Azaleas, Rhodedendron, Cypress, Beech, Heather, Apple, Yew, Lime, Prunus, Chestnut.
